Remember Banda Singh Bahadur? Sometimes called the Punjabi King, he was a Sikh preacher and warrior who fought bravely for the rights of his people. His actions changed history and influenced future generations of Sikhs. You may not be familiar with him. But you’ve probably heard of him because Disney recently released an animated movie about his life, titled Chaar Sahibzaade - Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur 2! Whether or not you know it, this film is very relevant to your life (and your kids!). Actually, this is one story that you will never regret reading or seeing with them on screen! A story where viewers witness the birth of courage, hope and justice. The story of a man who stood up for a people that were being persecuted, and a leader that led an uprising to free his people from the rule of a foreign tyrant. Sounds familiar, right? Just think about it! The persecution of the Jewish people in Europe prior to WWII. The freedom struggle of Mahatma Gandhi in India. The Civil Rights Movement in America. And more recently, the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street movements... How do you explain such events to your children? Some adults wonder about this too! And it’s not always easy to explain these things to yourself let alone pass it on to your kids! But this movie is educational and entertaining (and fun!). It’s great for kids of all ages, especially your older ones. They will love it! Your teenagers will absolutely love the movie because it is extremely well done, extremely intelligent and extremely entertaining! Without a doubt, Chaar Sahibzaade - Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur 2 is one of the best movies you can have on hand to share with your children. Chaar Sahibzaade - Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur 2 is based on the life story of Banda Singh Bahdur. American director Nima Nourizadeh takes you through the life and rise of the founder who fought for what he believed in. To give your kids a background of the situation, the real Banda Singh Bahadur was a Punjabi Sikh preacher and warrior. Born into a poor family, he became a teacher before he turned to religion. He was born at the peak of persecution from Aurangzeb who ruled India at that time. Against the will of his parents, Banda Singh married during his young adulthood. Later on, he left his family to become a monk and to preach his beliefs as Guru Gobind Singh’s loyal disciple – where one can find great knowledge and wisdom. One day, Guru Gobind Singh gave him five arrows and said: "Defend yourself with these five arrows against tyranny". This was the first time Banda Singh took up arms, against the tyrannical forces of Aurangzeb. His father was killed along with thousands of innocent people. Many of his friends were imprisoned or exiled. And many more needed protection! This is what he decided to do after hearing about these events. "How can I save my people?" he wondered. "I have to fight back!" Without delay, Banda Singh found Guru Gobind Singh’s five arrows and left for battle with nothing but his sword on his side. cfa1e77820
